The break-up is almost complete: Hannah and Julian meet one more time to hand over their apartment, which they hope will be quick and painless. No such luck, though: The hand-over flops and the two arguing exes are stuck together on New Year's Eve, of all days, after not speaking to each other for weeks. They're long overdue at their friends' party, where they wanted to put in one final appearance together. Seven years ago, Hannah and Julian met while looking for an apartment and became reluctant roommates. She's a career-oriented law student, he's a photographer who lives for the moment. She's always got everything planned out, he never does. The two roommates became an odd but loving couple. While Julian compromises professionally, Hannah climbs the career ladder. Then they started to grow apart and spend their time with other people. At the very low point of their relationship, an unsolved conflict from the past suddenly resurfaces and calles everything into doubt.
Six people bound together by a traumatic experience decide to round off a year of group therapy in style. They join each other once more, traveling up to the Scottish Lowlands for a reunion weekend in a 1970s holiday let. Soon a number of mysterious and horrifying events start to expose the cracks in their relationships, and one by one they discover that trust runs but skin-deep. A night of closure turns out to be far more final than they could have anticipated.
George Washington McLintock, "GW" to friends and foes alike, is a cattle baron and the richest man in the territory. He anxiously awaits the return of his daughter Becky who has been away at school for the last two years. He's also surprised to see that his wife Katherine has also returned. She had left him some years before without really explaining what he done but she does make the point of saying that she's returned to take their daughter back to the State Capitol with her. GW is highly respected by everyone around him including the farmers who are pouring into the territories with free grants of land and the Indians who are under threat of being relocated to another reservation. Between his wife, his headstrong daughter, the crooked land agent and the thieving government Indian agent, GW tries to keep the peace and do what is best for everyone.
